Zamboanga Hermosa Festival is the grandest in Region 9. For the entire month of October, activities are lined up to entertain locals and tourists. One of the most awaited activity is the Street Dancing Competition. Held last October 11, 2016, the streets of Zamboanga were filled with vibrant colors. Dancers swayed to the tune of trumpets and beat of drums.
Zamboanga is also known as Asia’s Latin City and the performers surely brought a festive latin vibe with their costumes bursting with colors. Elaborate and detailed, the dresses and gowns elegantly paraded in the streets. The crowd felt the energy of the dancers as the contagious beats will surely make spectators dance along. The afternoon rain did not stop the performers as they energetically danced in the concrete pavements leading to Paseo del Mar where they battled it out to win the grand prize.
The different teams showcased the rich culture of Zamboanga City. Formerly known as the City of Flowers, the performances were filled with flower inspired carnival costumes and props. Colorful vinta sails, the iconic lamp posts of Zamboanga City, famous tourist attractions and images of the Nuestra Senora la Virgen del Pilar were also used in the performances. The dancers joyfully chanted “Viva! Nuestra Senora la Virgen del Pilar!” in honor of the virgin mother who is the patron of Zamboanga City.
