Rodic's, being the staple meal of every Isko and Iska (students from the University of the Philippines), has been the talk of the town even for individuals outside the university. They have been serving affordable yet rich and savory tapsilog for decades.
This iconic Tapsilogan started off as a carinderia before being recognized as the go-to eatery of every Iskolar ng Bayan. At present, aside from their original branch at UP Diliman campus, they have already established branches all over the Metro. However, despite numerous recognitions received and their evolution through the years, they still opted to stay true to their identity as a simple carinderia serving flaked tapa to students in UP.
Pacita Tecson, founder of Rodic's Tapa, proudly stood up from her scooter when announced that Rodic's won for Best Beef Dish at the first Choose Philippines Awards Night. Her grandson received the award in her behalf. He honored his grandmother with a heartfelt speech which touched everyone's heart.
"In behalf of my grandmother who started the entire thing, my very beautiful grandmother, and the rest of us in Rodic's staff and crew, thank you very much," said owner Jett Abat as he received the award.
Both Pacita and her grandson were overwhelmed. But, more than the trophy and recognition, the smile of satisfaction from loyal customers of their classic simple shredded tapa dish makes it all worthwhile.
Rodolfo (Rody) and Ricardo (Dick) are Pacita's first nephews and her mother's first grandchildren-- the incorporation of their names resulted to the birth of Rodic's.
The original recipe of Rodic's Tapa was made and conceptualized by Pacita's mother which is her mother's most valuable heirloom, the only thing she could ever give to her family, and incomparable to any material possession.
