Santol, Moringa, and Langka Ice Cream? Only in Davao!

While Davao has given you the “out-of-this-world” taste of crocodile ice cream, Eden Nature Park and Resort in Bayabas, Toril, Davao City gives you an array of flavors from various fruits in season.

During the santol season at Eden, the fruits are harvested and made into ice cream that a lot of tasters have likened to strawberries.

Santol (Sandoricum koetjape) or Lolly fruit in English, is packed with Vitamins B and C, heals allergies, boosts immune system, and lowers cholesterol.  Its pulp tastes both sweet and sour at the same time.  The taste blends so well with the creamy goodness of milk adding up to a delectably-tasting ice cream.

Due to its popularity, it’s included as a bestseller in the menu every time it is available at the Vista Restaurant.  The Ms. Earth candidates had a grand time having it when they visited Eden last October.

Other ice creams to try are the Jalapeño, Langka, Moringa (Malunggay) and Lemon Grass.

The Jalapeño ice cream was not that spicy and only left a tinge of bite after you have swallowed its sweetness and creaminess.

And unlike commercial Langka (Jackfruit) ice creams, Eden’s version retains the original sweetness of the fruit and you can still nibble on bits of langka flesh.

Moringa or Malunggay is rich in Iron, Calcium, Magnesium and Vitamins A, E and K.  It has a slightly bitter taste but when made into ice cream, it becomes more palatable.  Eden’s Moringa ice cream is one nutritious treat.

When you go up to Eden, try their ice creams and who knows what flavor you might get to taste.

Thank you, Eden Nature Park and Resort’s Brenda Ocampo, Jeline Gison, Ms. Cely, Photphot and F & B Manager Chef Gerard Piansay. Thank you Red Agreda for the Moringa ice cream photo.
