Breaking invisible barriers on Lampinigan Island Basilan

Mark Rodel dela Rosa | Sep 05, 2013

Basilan Province in southern Philippines has received negative publicity due to events of rampant abduction and kidnap-for-ransom, as well as bombardment of structures and disputes resulting to gunfire between the military and militants. Mainstream media had contributed to the exaggeration of happenings in the province, indirectly tagging it as a war zone that is unsafe and formidable. With my strong belief that I can surpass the hostile image of Basilan, I took my Zamboanga Peninsula adventure to another level as I headed out to one of the areas believed to be the cache of some extremist militants—the majestic Lampinigan Island.
