One of the best-known traits of a Filipino, even during crisis situations, is humor. Pinoys are the best at making light of everything – even topics that aren’t a laughing matter. Social media became a natural outlet for many who tried to make light of an otherwise dire situation.

During his address on the pronouncement of a community quarantine in Metro Manila, President Duterte himself tried to inject levity into a stressful situation through humor. He told everyone to stay at home and have their ‘vacation’ inside their house. He joked that there might still be things and spots in the house that they have not seen yet. “Pwede kayong magbakasyon diyan lang sa bahay," the president said, "I’m sure may mga bagay-bagay diyan sa bahay na hindi pa ninyo nakita.”

Joemari Signe Maglinte, a teacher at the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines Qroquieta Campus, took the advice of the president and had a vacation inside their house in Baliangao, Misamis Occidental. His creativity served as his ticket to explore the world in one day! Unlike Daniela Mondragon of the phenomenal Kapamilya series Kadenang Ginto who trended because of her red suitcase, Joemari toured his house with a purple suitcase. His hilarious vacation trended on social media. Netizens enjoyed his witty captions and top model poses.

Pinoys are resilient; we do not easily give up and we have the ability to face even the most difficult tests in life with a smile.
