Here's How the Mindanao Youth Aid in the Battle Against COVID-19!

If there’s one Jose Rizal cliché we always use and hear, it is: “Ang Kabataan ang Pag-asa ng Bayan!” And during this time where everybody needs a hero… our youth leaders step-up and do their share to save us!

In Nabunturan, Davao de Oro, SK officials work hand-in-hand to repack health kits that will be given to the frontliners in their area. Each health kits has germicidal soap, bleach, paracetamol, vitamins, hand sanitizers and mask. They also contain leaflets with a reminder to take good care of themselves.

SK leaders in Barangay Mintal, Davao City united to make face masks for their Barangay First Aid responders, barangay police, health workers and barangay staff. After equipping all the barangay personnel with their creations, the young leaders made another batch of masks for the residents in their barangay. Some residents donated cloth and sewing machines. “Imbes nga naa lang sa balay mayo nang naa mi matabang para ang ubang SK makahuna huna sab ani. Importante ni sa panahon karon nga kulang gyud ang mga mask. (Through this initiative, we want our fellow youth to be productive. That’s why we ask them to help us make masks because it is very much needed now, especially in our barangay),” said Kendall Joyce Abrio, SK Chairman.

In Agdao District, Davao City, the SK leaders of 8 barangays (Centro, Tomas Monteverde, Leon Garcia, Lapu-Lapu, R. Castillo, Agdao Proper, W. Aquino and Paciano Bangoy) prepared alcohol-based anti-bacterial hand sanitizers with citronella (not the gel type) to be distributed in their respective barangays. “Isip lider, dapat dili kanya-kanya ang lihok, dapat magkahiusa gyud alang sa is aka tumong-ang pag patay sa dili makitang kalaban: COVID-19 (As leaders, we should be united in our efforts to fight against COVID-19),” said Paolo Rodriguez, SK Chairman, Brgy. Lapu-Lapu.

In Misamis Oriental, the lack of supply did not hinder the SK leaders from providing a helping hand to their residents. Together with the Department of Health, the SK leaders distributed Hygenic Kits to PUMs (Person Under Monitoring) and frontliners including Barangay Health Workers, Barangay Police, and midwives in Barangay Solana, Jasaan Misamis Oriental. Young leaders also reminded the residents to follow the safety guidelines set by the government and health ministry.

Finally, in Barangay Pagatpat, SK leaders prepared disinfectants to be distributed in their barangay. Since there is no allocated budget for the pandemic catastrophe, the SK leaders used their own savings to push through the implementation of the project. PUV drivers and barangay front liners are the priority beneficiaries.
