Weddings are an important part of every couple’s lives. Today, there are many options to celebrate this happy ceremony. You can do a beach wedding, a garden wedding, a church wedding, or a civil wedding. For two couples in Negros, however, all the wedding ceremony varieties did not matter. They opted to tie the knot amidst the COVID-19 threat, proving that love will find a way, despite all odds.

Last 20 March 2020, couples Joeven Paul Pataray and Rae Jaelle Palero, Marvin Yola and Leilyn Sanz sealed their commitments to forever in front of Judge Montano. Usually, a civil wedding is conducted inside a courtroom. However, due to the COVID-19 threat, the ceremony was held under a tree in the parking lot of Hall of Justice in Bacolod City, as people are prohibited to go inside the building. “The intended date was supposed to be on 27 March. We decided to move it earlier due to the threat na baka maabutan ng lockdown,” says one of the grooms, Joven Paul Pataray. “COVID-19 lang siya, we’re getting married (It’s just COVID-19. We’re getting married)”, he jokingly added.

For Marvin Yola and Leilyn Sanz, they scheduled their wedding on 20 March way before the pandemic broke. “Ok lang nga wala sa sulod sang hall of justice. Importante madayon lang [ang kasal] (It is ok if did not happen inside the Hall of Justice. The important thing for us is to get married), says the couple. They decided to cancel the reception for the sake of everyone’s safety. Their relatives were present to witness the ceremony but everyone practiced social distancing by standing 5 meters away from the couple. The couple shared that their wedding was fun and unique in its own way, because of and despite the crisis.

These two couples are living proof that love truly conquers all, even in the time of COVID-19. Stay in love, couples!
