It’s Wednesday morning of March 25 and everyone is expected to be at home because of the implementation of community quarantine throughout Davao City. However, animal welfare advocate, Sonia Geli, has a mission to accomplish for the day. She mixed some rice and canned good products and headed out to feed the hungry stray dogs of Buhangin, Davao City.
The community quarantine did not hinder Geli’s compassion for the stray dogs. “Karamihan sa kanila sa mga dogs ay nasa ilalim na lang ng mga sasakyan, natutulog, nagpapalipas ng gutom. Kawawa talaga sila. Sa feeding program na ito… hindi na ako nag-invite ng volunteers kasi delikado ang panahon. (We’ve seen them hiding in huge objects, hungry, and it breaks my heart. I did the feeding program without volunteers this time to abide with the guidelines of the LGU).”
Geli’s act of kindness to the dogs went viral on social media. Netizens poured out positive comments. Many were inspired and expressed thanksgiving for the sacrifice and love shown by Geli’s group. “Gutom na nga ang mga tao lalo na sila nan aka depende ang kanilang oras sa atin. Maraming Salamat po in behalf of Davao Animal Welfare Volunteers. Maraming Salamat po and God bless. (The dogs have nothing to eat in the middle of the enhanced community quarantine because they only rely on humans. In behalf of the Davao Animal Welfare Volunteers we are grateful for your kindness)."
About 30 dogs smiled on that day!
