A police officer assigned in a quarantine checkpoint at Barangay Abilan, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte was surprised by her fiancé during their first anniversary on April 8. An accomplice contacted by Buenavista PNP brought flowers, balloons, and cake for their anniversary.

Patrolwoman Mary Grace Agnes Malongayon admitted that she was not expecting anything from her fiancé Corporal Reynard Baynos who is a member of Philippine Marines currently assigned in Palawan. The couple is in a long-distance relationship. It was just an ordinary day for Patrolwoman Malongayon responding to a call as a frontliner. To her surprise, she was greeted by a romantic care package from a loving and thoughtful fiancé who exerted an extra effort to surprise her on their relationship milestone. “Dy, salamat sa iyong pag-effort sa anniversary natin hindi ko inasahan na gagawin mo iyon dahil sabi mo nga hindi ka sanay sa mga ganyang bagay. Pasalamat ako sa kabila ng layo natin ay may time ka pa sa relasyon natin (Dy, thank you for the effort on our anniversary. I didn’t expect it because I know you’re not used to doing things like this. I’m grateful because in spite our distance, you still have time for our relationship),” said Patrolwoman Mary Grace.

The two got engaged last January and admit that while it’s hard for them to be in a long-distance relationship, the current situation due to COVID-19 pandemic makes it even more challenging. “Kahit malayo tayo sa isa't isa dito lang ako para sa iyo. Salamat dahil lagi kang nandiyan para sa akin, magtiwala lang tayo sa isa't isa malagpasan din natin ang mga problema na 'to (Even though we’re far from each other, know that I’m always here for you. Thank you for being always there for me. I’m confident we’ll surpass this challenge as long as we continue to trust each other)," said Corporal Baynos.
