An online photo contest that lets you channel your inner model while riding a carabao. Yes, this challenge existed to keep the residents of Barangay La Union in the Municipality of San Isidro, Davao Oriental alive and kicking during the quarantine. More than 100 entries have been submitted and there are quite a few poses that really stood out.
Some of these are the “Dalagang Pilipina” entry of Purok Carp where a lady riding a carabao is wearing a traditional baro’t saya. The “Frontliner” entry of Purok Kahilungguhan where both the man and the carabao are wearing protective gears such as face mask and shield. And the “LGBTQIA+” entry from Purok Carp who won five thousand pesos (P5, 000) as the best photo.
According to Alex Solidum, the organizer, they wanted to highlight the carabao since it greatly contributed to the farming livelihood of the majority of the residents. “Naa man gud mi sa bukid, we want to show to everyone the kind of life that we have here and also para mawala ang anxiety and depression of residents because of the pandemic.” He assured that there were no carabaos harmed in the contest.
