Noel Samson is a carpenter in Valladolid, Negros Occidental who specializes in making motor banca for his livelihood. For 10 years, Noel mastered the craft of these water vehicles for fishing and for bankarera (Racing motor banca). Due to the enhanced community quarantine, however, his livelihood stopped. Since no one is allowed to go out, he thought of making a jet ski from scratch. (I used to watch jet ski videos on youtube and I was fond of it while on community quarantine. I thought of trying to make one if I can do it),” Noel recalled. Since he knows how to repair old commercialized jet skis, he thought to pattern the body of it into his own one designs. (It is really my passion of making motor bancas. I am happy whenever I finish one),” says Noel. Made of marine plywood, a steering wheel from an old bicycle, and an engine used for motor bancas, Noel now has his homemade jet ski.

Now that Negros Occidental is in MGCQ already, Noel uses his jet ski to go to work instead of taking a tricycle. Though it may not as fast as the commercialized ones, it is something that he is proud of. Now, I already have 3 persons who wanted me to make it for them. The one is in Makati. What is good about it is because it can also add to my income and I can show them my skills),” says Noel. The local government in Valladolid wanted to make this homemade jet ski a new venture to them. Thanks to Noel for his amazing skills and passion for making this as a new tourist attraction in Negros!
