Succulents make such popular houseplants because of their hardiness and ability to grow in a wide variety of climates. They will not only add touches of green to your living space any time of the year, but they will also bloom in season, splashing the canvas of your home with color. While for many, succulents provide happiness, for a girl in Pasay City, every pot of this plant adds to her life.
On Facebook, Meryl Anne Coching is raising funds for her kidney transplant and calls it #PlantHopeForMeryl. In 2018, a few days before her birthday, she was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease Stage 5. For almost two years, she underwent hemodialysis thrice a week. Like any other kidney patient, she can only hope that the treatment would suffice to manage her disease. In January this year, her body started giving up on dialysis. Her right forearm graft, which enables the dialysis process, malfunctioned and failed. An emergency central venous catheter was then tunneled in her neck and subsequently in her chest. Both of her kidneys are enlarged with the heavy cysts. The surgeons have advised her to undergo a transplant as soon as possible.
The onset of the pandemic delayed her kidney transplant. As such, she needed continuous dialysis three times a week, relying on new medications to prevent her catheter from clogging while awaiting her surgery. With this, she is humbly asking for our generous hearts to continuously support her on her fundraising, “I chose succulent plants for my fundraising because it symbolizes life and hope. Starts small and grows and glows as you nurture it. Also, it feels great to become a Plantito and Plantita! You will feel happy seeing your baby plants grow and glow each day. I also want other people to experience the joy brought by plants at the same time, they’re able to help,” shared Meryl.
The succulent plants are personally prepared by Meryl and sold at P200. “I am very much thankful to everyone who supported me on this journey. I am overwhelmed with the willingness of many people to support me even if they don’t know me personally. I feel God’s overflowing love for me,” she added, “To everyone who prayed and supported me, I want to share to them how grateful I am. Maraming, maraming, maraming salamat (Thank you very much). Thank you for planting hope for me.” Send her a message on her Facebook account if you wish to buy.
