The age of 16 marks a very important period in anyone's life, a special time for both the teenager their parents. Sixteenth birthday parties are held to marks the transition from childhood to adulthood. It celebrates a child's past achievements as they look forward to a new chapter of their life.
Instead of the usual birthday party, a teenager from San Jacinto, Ticao, Masbate decided to celebrate his 16th birthday with the frontliners of COVID-19. According to his mom, Lord Enerdon Ylon Bartolay was originally asking for a gadget as a 16th birthday gift. The global pandemic, however, changed these plans. Instead of a gadget, Ylon asked for a birthday handa (feast) for frontliners such as medical personnel and policemen.
Ylon's mom, who works as a domestic helper in the United Arab Emirates was touched after discovering her son's birthday wish. It was a way of paying tribute to the sacrifices of the frontliners, such as his dad who is a police officer. Friends and family members pitched in to make Ylon's birthday wish come true. His dad's friend cooked pancit and his aunt brought it to Ticao District Hospital to distribute among the medical staff there. Personnel in PNP checkpoint in their barangay also received the same handa. As much as he wanted, Ylon wasn't able to give the foods personally because he doesn't have an ECQ pass. However, in every paper meal box, he included a message saying that he salutes all the modern heroes today.
