Instead of pursuing their supposed November 2020 wedding in Sagada, Coby Sarreal and Vianka Amurao got married on 20 April 2020 in their ancestral home, not letting the community quarantine and COVID-19 restrict them from exchanging vows. Joining the celebration of their union, their family and friends attended the wedding via online video chat platform Zoom.
“The takeaway from this is you celebrate every day,” Vianka relates, “You make do with what you have. You know you should just live in the moment and just explore with things you have at home.”
Planning a quarantined wedding in just five days, the adventurous couple shares that teamwork was key. Vianka says, “I think it’s the everyday decision that we choose to love each other and we’re very spontaneous so whatever the plan is, the best thing is we’re always on the same page.” Coby adds, “I would just say that we can do anything together. It became stronger. It strengthened that.”
It all goes down to the celebration of love and its significance, no matter the distance, location, or setting. “Love is not just focused on your nationality, you know, it’s very relevant worldwide,” expresses Vianka, "You can lockdown everything but you cannot confine love.”
