In the highlands of Digos City, Davao del Sur, with an elevation of 1,200 meters, Barangay Kapatagan has its own version of the Summer Capital of the Philippines, offering the people of Southern Mindanao a closer alternative to heading to Baguio, a mere two-hour drive from Davao City.
Situated at the foot of the Philippines' highest peak, Wine Woods Apo offers its visitors with picturesque views of upland farms and majestic sceneries of Mount Apo. The resort is also known for its locally produced wine, where guests can enjoy a selection of fruit-flavored variants, such as mango, jackfruit, lomboy, and mangosteen, as they enjoy the cool climate. Although sweet, the wine offered in the resort still contains 12% alcohol, making it perfect for both enthusiasts and casual drinkers. The wine tasting experience is included in the P200 day-tour fee and separate bottles are available for purchase at P499.
For tourists looking for a unique wine experience, they can opt to bathe in a wine pool for P799– a feature considered first of its kind in the country. This amenity can be found inside a small wood cabin-like room of the resort, complete with a fireplace to set just the right ambiance. According to the resort owner, Jovy Escartin, bottles of Mangosteen red wine are poured into the pool every week, a variant that is purported to be rich in antioxidants and antiaging properties.
The resort caters also to those who wish to extend their stay longer. Families can also opt to stay in a sophisticated 2-story house that can accommodate 10 persons for P10,000 per night.
