Iloilo Golf and Country Club is widely known as Sta. Barbara is the oldest golf course in the Philippines.
Though it’s the oldest, it’s not passé to golfers. Built and completed in 1907, the 35 hectares of plain and rolling hills is an 18-hole course (6,056 yards), a place for those who love playing golf.
It was known as the Sta. Barbara Golf and Country Club prior to 1947.
Variety is the best word to describe the Iloilo Golf and Country Club, the course was constructed following the natural landscape of the place.
At first, the club was only open to expats. In 1920, Filipinos were allowed to join and among them was Eugenio Lopez, Sr.
Facilities include practice areas for warm-up. For the convenience of the guests, tee houses are located on the fairways and modern clubhouse with restaurant.
The golf club is private but tourists or visitors are welcome to play. In order to play at the golf club, reservations must be made especially if you’ll book on weekends or holidays.
How to Get There
From Manila, you can fly to Iloilo (estimated cost of Php3,000++, round trip, one hour). You can also opt for a bus trip (estimated cost of Php875++ per head, air-conditioned bus and boat fare, 17 hours plus).
Iloilo Golf and Country Club is located in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo, the club is 20 minutes from Iloilo City and 5 minutes from the new International Airport.
