3 Must-Try Air Adventures That Will Make You Love Flying

Man has always been fascinated with how it is to fly like birds and soar into the sky. With the introduction of the airplane, man has realized his dream of flying.

In Mindanao, there are three fascinating ways to flap your wings and glide.

1. Ultralight:

The Mindanao Saga Flying Club (MSFC) in Mati, Davao Oriental offers a trial introductory flight for 15 minutes at PhP 1700.

Your view would be the green canopy of Mati City’s mangrove forest and fruit plantations, long stretch of white-sand beach of Dahican and the different shades of blue water of Pujada Bay.

If you seriously want to pursue a career in being a pilot, they do have a flying school.

2. Paragliding

Paragliding is as close to flying with wings.

It is just the wind and the expertise of your pilot that takes you high up in the air. At the Paragliding site in Maasim, Sarangani Province, you get to be suspended 950 feet above sea level and have an amazing view of Sarangani Bay and the canyons on land for just PhP3500 for 15 minutes.

It is one pure adrenaline ride.  Just be careful with your action cameras or you would not have a POV shot of your experience as what happened to me.

3. Paramotor

Now come the Paramotor ride which is similar to paragliding but you fly with a burner 360cc tandem motor. Your view would be the vast pineapple plantations of Polomolok, South Cotabato and Mt. Matutum.

For PhP3500 for 10 to 15 minutes, you seat back and relax as the wind blow on your face and the sea of green relaxes your eyes.

How to get there:
For the ultralight:
Mati City is a 3-hour road trip from Davao City. Take the bus from the Davao Overland Terminal in Ecoland to Mati City. Vans plying the Mati route also have their terminals at Gaisano Mall, Abreeza, NCCC, and SM Ecoland.
Single motorcycles or habal-habals can be rented at the Mati City proper to get to the Mindanao Saga Flying Club (MSFC) air strip in Dahican.
For the paragliding:
PAL and other major airlines fly daily to General Santos City.
Contact the Paragliding Viewdeck and Tent City at 0927-820-4297 to book your 4 x 4 ride to the site and the Sarangani Paraglide.
For the paramotor:
PAL and other major airlines fly daily to General Santos City.
Polomolok is less than an hour away by land from GenSan.
