Subic Beach in Matnog, Sorsogon
Fondly referred to as the “Queen City of Bicol,” it seems that Naga City, situated in the very center of the Bicol Peninsular, has everything. In fact, it’s considered to be the center of all things necessary to the average Bicolano’s daily life: business, religion, finance, commerce, and even medicine. It also happens to be blessed with tremendously beautiful natural resources, from waterfalls to ecological parks that can be easily considered one of the most beautiful in the world.
However, it can only provide so much, and after a while, one would like to move one’s feet elsewhere to experience new things. Once that happens, here are nearby provinces that are just as blessed and just as beautiful.
Masbate is a few hours away via bus and boat from Naga, and with all the beauty of this island, it's worth 6-8 hours of travel time. Composed of numerous magnificent islands, with each having a unique personality all to itself, it's a great place that lets you go back to nature after experiencing the modernity and culture of Naga.
Easily accessible via land, the trip from Naga to Sorsogon takes anywhere about 3 to 5 hours. However, in spite of the short trip, it's still a wonderful destination, with places like rivers, beaches, and numerous resorts to visit. And of course, as a bonus, Sorsogon is one of the few places in the Philippines where you can swim with the butanding safely (and unobtrusively!)
Another locale easily accessible by land, Caramoan is hidden behind a mountain with very rough roads. However, once you get over and out of the mountain, you will be greeted by a beautiful rocky beach that can easily rival that of El Nido's. Of course, there are also numerous islands for you to visit, provided that the waves are forgiving that day.
