Cultures Come Together This October: The ASEAN—Republic of Korea Arts Exchange

As part of the ASEAN 50th year anniversary and the 25th ASEAN Republic of Korea Cultural Exchange Year, the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA), together with the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in the Philippines are partnering for Beyond Borders: ASEAN-Republic of Korea Arts Exchange highlighted by two October events, the Graffiti Art Project and the Dance Exchange. 

Korean meets Philippine culture once more this October

For the Graffiti Art Project, 11 visual artists from the ASEAN Member States (AMS) and ROK will collaboratively design and render a large graffiti mural at the corner of 26th Street and 5th Avenue of the Bonifacio Global City. The visual artists will be working on the said mural from October 14-27, 2017.

For the Dance Exchange, 2 dancers from each participating country will be working on a collaborative dance showcase under Ballet Manila’s Creative Director, Ms. Lisa Macuja-Elizalde. This will culminate in a dance performance showcase at the Star Theater on October 20, 2017. The show will be open to the public for free.

The Graffiti Art Project is a collaborative graffiti mural of chosen artists from the ASEAN Region and Korea, under a Korean Creative Director Young-Gyun, Park. A giant mural featuring a stylized Chaek-Ga-Do, a traditional Korean cabinet, will be rendered and unveiled at the Bonifacio Global City after a two week painting period. The Dance Exchange features selected dancers from ASEAN countries Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Korea working together under the creative direction and choreography of the Philippines Prima Ballerina, Ms. Lisa Macuja-Elizalde. This culminates in a performance at the Star Theater on October 20, 2017, which is open to the public.
