The Daet Pineapple Festival, or more famously known as the Pinyasan Festival, was born on April 14, 1993 when it was unanimously approved by the town's Sangguniang Bayan. Originally inspired by Camiguin's Lanzones Festival, the author of the resolution and current town mayor Tito Sarte Sarion institutionalized the festival under Executive Order 07-93 to boost tourism in Daet and promote its Formosa variety as the country's sweetest pineapple.

In 2009, Daet made the longest pineapple chain during the Pinyasan Festival, making it to the Guinness Book of Records. The celebration highlights include a Float Competition and Pinya Carafest, Ginuman Fest with Banda Ni Kleggy and Calla Lily, National Dart Tournament, Bikol Cities and Municipalities Sharing of Good Governance Conference, Pinyasan Street Dancing Competition and Fireworks Display, Fun Run, Laro ng Lahi, and a special Scriptwriting Workshop to be conducted by Mr. Ricky Lee.

Trivia: Daet's name was derived from the Bicol word “dai-daitan,” which mean “close to each other.” Another possible origin is the ancient Bicol term “daet,” which according to the first Bicol Spanish dictionary “Vocabolario dela Lengua Vicol” authored by Fray Marcos de Lisboa means “to make friends” or “to be reconciled.”
