Paraw Regatta Festival: Philippines’ Biggest Sailing Event

The Iloilo Paraw Regatta Festival is the biggest sailing event in the Philippines held annually every February. The event is also considered as the oldest traditional sailing event in Southeast Asia.

Now on its 44th year, the Iloilo Paraw Regatta Festival highlight of activities is scheduled on the third week of February.

Many participants are expected to join in making the event more colorful and exciting. The festival also aims to give tribute to the Ilonggo seafaring traditions.

The Iloilo Paraw Regatta Festival is a weeklong celebration with different kinds of activities such as cultural shows, paraw-making, paraw race, slalom competition, photo exhibit and contests, fishing tournaments, watersports and beauty pageant.

This 2016, 25 official candidates will vie for the title of Miss Paraw Regatta. Support your bets by watching their pre-pageant competitions until the coronation night.

The Iloilo Paraw Regatta Festival was hailed as the Best Sports Tourism Event in the country in 2009.

How to Get There

From Manila, you can fly to Iloilo (estimated cost of Php3,000++, round trip, one hour).

Transportation is mainly by jeepney which serves the district to the Iloilo City Proper. Metered taxi cabs also serve the traveling public. From Iloilo Airport, you can hail a cab and ask to be dropped off at your destination. To go to Villa Beach, you can hire a taxi or ride a “Villa” jeepney along Valeria St., General Luna St., at the Molo District Plaza, or at the Arevalo District Plaza.
