The Philippines is predominantly Catholic, so it is common to see Catholic churches with open doors to welcome the faithful. The ritual of novena and lighting of candles can be traced back directly to the Spanish colonization.  

Quiapo Church is quie known to Filipino all over the country. Faithful devotees usually make one's way to Quiapo Church to offer a prayer by lighting a candle or doing the stations of the cross. 

Some penitents walk on their knees from the entrance of the church all the way to the altar. Some do their 9-day novena. Different kinds of people from all walks of life come here to seek divine assistance.
