Tawi-tawi registered 1 million visitors in 2016 and the Department of Tourism-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DOT-ARMM) is aiming for a 15% increase in tourist arrivals this 2017. Choose Philippines’ travel insider, Olan Emboscado went on a tour of Tawi-Tawi and went to the first mosque and noted that some of its original pillars are still standing.
Many believe that touching or having even just a chip of the wood would bring healing.
Aside from the mosque, Muslim and Christian pilgrims also go to the peak of Bud Bongao as a thanksgiving for blessings received, to ask for wishes to come true or as a prayer to heal the sick or to cleanse sins.
Tawi-tawi’s islands have pristine white sand beaches that are havens for the beach lovers who want to be far from the madding crowd. They have the default for clear blue skies, soft white sand, green swaying leaves of trees, and crystal clear sea.
And the bounties of the waters come to your table in various ways that is fresh, unprocessed, and delicious.
The DOT-ARMM is working on accrediting 10 hotel accommodations for the growing tourist traffic to Tawi-Tawi.
