Last week of January, the sudden death of the basketball legend, Kobe Bryant together with his daughter Gianna shocked the world. Even if you’re not a basketball fan, you would know who Kobe Bryant is, especially his contributions to the basketball industry. The world gave tributes to the untimely demise of the basketball legend and the Philippines is no exception.

In Iloilo, 3rd Gen Glory’s Café offers Mamba Sandwich, its name a tribute for the popular nickname for Kobe. “The ube–cheese flavor is now the trend on the market,” says Jasper, Marketing Head. “We planned on launching the product during the first week of February as one of our newest offerings. But, when we heard the news of Kobe Bryant’s passing, we thought of renaming the new product as part of our tribute to the Mamba.”

It is a grilled sandwich with ube halaya and melted cheese as its filling. Since its launch, the sandwich has been their best selling product to date. “We tried the Mamba Sandwich out of curiosity. It is definitely a must-try. The flavor of cheese and ube complement each other. It is not too sweet or too bitter, perfect for a cup of coffee,” Reign, one of the customers, compliments.

Gen Glory’s Café also has a Mamba bite-sized cake made of ube and cream cheese decorated with number 8 on top as Bryant’s jersey number. “We are overwhelmed by the response and positive feedback from our customers,” Jasper said, “This tribute to the legendary man will be one of the things that we are proud of. It may not be because of him at first but maybe it was really meant to be.”
