The Cure to your Rainy Day Blues: Champorado

Feeling cold? Lonely? Have a warm bowl of champorado to banish the cold, and lift your spirits up.

Now, about being your being alone...

Ingredients:

1 cup malagkit rice
4 heaping tbsp. of cocoa powder, dissolved in warm water (OR 2 tsokolate tablea, dissolved in warm water)
1/2 cup sugar
2 1/2 cups water
condensed milk to put on top

Procedure:

  • Bring 1 1/2 cup of water to a boil and add malagkit.
  • Follow with dissolved cocoa powder and stir gently.
  • Cook for 15 minutes until the rice is tender, and add the sugar. Cook for another 5 minutes to soften the rice and to thicken the mixture.
  • Serve warm with condensed milk on top. As a side dish, you can serve it with dilis or any salted dried fish, for a delicious sweet and salty taste.

Serves 3-4
