There is something about flying that has always fascinated me.  How one big body can move swiftly or gently in the sky and defy gravity even just for a while.  This is the reason why I have tried ultralight flying in Mati, Davao Oriental with the Mindanao Saga Flying Club and even “piloted” the plane for 7 minutes.

I took more than the allotted 15 minutes while paragliding in Maasim, Sarangani and Cagayan de Oro with my Taklobo pilots and even aerobatics with Camiguin Aviation in Camiguin.

The thrill of flight has not waned every time I take to the skies on a light plane or an Airbus.  A lot of my nervousness on turbulent flights has dissipated after being on an aileron roll maneuver with Captain Sean Clarke in Camiguin.

I thought that the next would be skydiving but then again, there’s parasailing.

Villa Angelina Luxury Suites of Dakak Park and Beach Resort treated me to a parasailing experience by the Dakak Aquasports on a recent trip.

Parasailing is defined as gliding through air strapped on an open parachute while being towed by a boat. It is also defined as an extreme sports activity.

I did not get to do it in Boracay when I had a group to tandem flight with, this time, I dared take a solo flight (PhP2,200/15 minutes as of July 2018).

The crew gave me a briefing on safety rules, made me sign a waiver, strapped me to a parachute, left my camera with them, and we speeded off to the clean and green Dapitan bay.

My chute is a colorful wing that popped out as I ascended into the blue sky.  I instructed the crew to just click and click and click.  I did not bring a mobile camera with me as I have a bad record when holding cameras in the sky. (read my paragliding story).

I was whooping with joy as the wind kept me afloat over the blue sea and green land.  You feel the tug of the rope as you fly against the wind and yet there is a certain serenity and peace as you gaze over what is below you.

Parasailing makes you realize that one rope and a set of carabiners separates you from safety and danger.  That you are at the mercy of the wind that you have to fly against or else you would not keep afloat.  That from a distance, you get to appreciate things from a different perspective. And that flying solo can be exhilarating and liberating like a bird in flight.

We might have different perspectives on how parasailing can get to you but it is worth trying.

As I descended, I said a prayer for a safe flight and when I was on my feet on the speedboat, I said thank you to my crew for a great flight and for my wonderful photos.

I would gladly fly again with them anytime.

Daghang salamat, Dakak Aquasports Sir Cesar Jalosjos and the crew, Ms. Lana Jalosjos-De Leon, April and Spice, Sir RD, Dapitan City Tourism Officer Ms. Apple Marie Agolong, Ms. Erna and Ms. Malou, and Kit.

How to get there:
Major airlines fly daily to Dipolog City from Manila and Cebu.
From Dipolog airport, it is a 30-45 minutes road trip to Dakak’s Villa Angelina Luxury Suites of Dakak Park and Beach Resort in Dapitan.  Dakak Aquasports Center is at the other end of the 750-meter beach of Dakak.
