Known as the largest procession in the Philippines, this celebration of red and gold honors and depicts the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, carved into a dark-skinned figured in the 16th century. Today and in the years past, the Traslación of the Black Nazarene  is annually celebrated on the 9th of January at the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene known as Quiapo Church, the Quirino Grandstand, and the streets of Manila where it travels to and from the church and grandstand.

The Traslación is largely celebrated by thousands, if not millions of devotees. Due to the constant high number in attendance, the procession is known for casualties such as stampedes and injuries. Nevertheless, the Filipinos continue to brave the crowds in devotion of faith and reverence of blessings as they see or touch the holy image, guarded by over 13,000 police officers and personnel throughout the Nazareno’s route in Traslación 2020.
