How does spending a day tour of lunching by the river sound like to you? Mambukal Mountain Resort offers a visual and gastronomical weekend attraction “Kaon ‘Ta Sa Suba” or Let’s Eat by the River. Here, friends and families can enjoy a sumptuous buffet by the Asia River surrounded by nature: the lush trees and the sound of water flowing from the nearby river relaxes the eyes and ears, a welcome break from the usual fast-food chains and fine dining restaurants. Philip Piccio, a visitor from Aurora province, enjoyed his new experience. "This place makes you forget your problems for a while, I love it here," he exclaims.
For a fee of Php 499, visitors can feast on grilled pork chops, bangus, and chicken inasal. “Those who will visit Mambukal will experience a touch of Negros, as the food are mostly local cuisine,” reveals Ester Jane Ignacio, the Resort Recreation and Welfare Services Officer, “Guests will also have a taste of sugarcane juice, Negros being popular for being the Sugar Bowl of Asia.” The feast is set on a local raft called a balsa, with the offerings served on bilaos or kalalaw in Hiligaynon, woven trays covered with banana leaves, all adding to the native character of the experience.
The day tour package includes free entrance to the resort and access to the swimming and dipping pools. The dipping pool is famous for its sulfuric water, known for alleviating digestive disorders such as acid reflux and other health issues. Some also believe it assists the liver in its detoxifying functions. Aside from the weekend lunch buffet treat, the resort also has other attractions which include a boating lagoon, a butterfly garden, and a 200-meter zipline.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson reveals that Kaon ‘Ta Sa Suba is just phase 1 of the innovation and development introduced by the provincial government to maximize the resort’s full potential. “The latest innovation and improvement aims to give Negrenses a place to father as a family or with friends, and enjoy the scenery and good food,” says Governor Lacson.
Mambukal Mountain Resort is an hour's drive from Bacolod City. Tourists who want to commute can board a passenger minibus that will cost them only P60 per person. A rented vehicle will take guests to the resort in 30 to 45 minutes.
