Good nutrition is very important before, during, and after an infection. Infections take a toll on the body especially when these cause fever, the body needs extra energy and nutrients. While no foods or dietary supplements can prevent COVID-19 infection, maintaining a healthy diet is an important part of supporting a strong immune system.
Chef ELPI of ELPI Vegan Resto in General Santos City added a unique offering to his menu called Corona Vurger that doesn’t just spread joy, but also to educate people, “I read an article about how Vietnam cured all of their 16 COVID-19 patients by treating the novel virus just like the common flu and putting all patients on a strict nutritious diet and until now, their country has zero deaths. It means, boosting your immunity through nutrition is very vital on our fight against the virus,” he added, “A Vietnamese chef made a corona burger just to spread joy to those who will eat it amidst the pandemic crisis. That gave me an idea to make my own version, a vegan and ELPInoy version of a corona burger.”
The Malunggay Corona Vurger is 100% plant-based, 0% cholesterol, meat, egg and dairy-free, animal friendly, and with a low carbon footprint. “I used Moringa Olifeira (Malunggay) as my main ingredient for my burger bun simply because, I love Malunggay. It is my favorite Filipino Superfood. It is hailed as the most nutritious plant on earth. It is a natural multivitamin. It’s very delicious, nutritious and most importantly, very cheap. Most of the time, you can get it for free,” shared Chef ELPI.
Chef ELPI is hopeful that this pandemic will serve as a wake-up call to everyone to focus on eating healthy foods, “I know we live in a heavy meat-eating culture, but I would like to challenge the norm because it is what brought us into this disaster. It’s about time that we reconsider our ways, especially with our food choices, because it has now become clear that these affect us all,” he added, “As they say: if life gave you lemons, make a lemonade out of it. Well, in my case, life gave me a coronavirus (CV), then, I will make a CORONA VURGER (CV) instead.”
