Iligan, a highly urbanized city in Northern Mindanao, is situated within the province of Lanao del Norte but administered independently from the province. Claiming its independence as a chartered city in the year 1950, Iligan is dubbed as the City of Majestic Waterfalls.

In the heart of the city lies the head quarters nestled safely at the peak of Buhanginan Hills. Also, within this compound lies the region's the largest open air tourism center: The Anahaw Amphitheater.

Iligan got its name from the Higaonon word Ilihan which means fortress or defense. Horse-drawn carriages or locally termed as Tartanilla are still found on the streets and became a mode of transportation.
