At Luzon's End: Subic Beach, Matnog, Sorsogon

Sorsogon

Subic Beach belongs to the sleepy town of Matnog in Sorsogon province, in an island called Calintaan, but it might as well be at the edge of the world.

On a sunny day, the flat seas separating the mainland and the small island are dotted with tiny whirlpools. On channels between islands, the crystal clear waters allow one to see sheer drops in the ocean floor, which are as scary as they are beautiful. On the island, the beach is quiet, the coral sand white, the waters cold and clear. In the evening, there is an equal chance of a moonrise as in a good night's sleep.
