6 Filipino Swimmers Promote Awareness to Save the Verde Island Passage

The World Wide Fund  Philippines- Reef Strokes  in cooperation  with Pico de Loro/ Hamilo Coast and SEA VIP Institute  held an event last May29, 2016 to raise awareness and stand against climate change and ocean pollution dubbed as Save The Verde Island Passage.  

The zone has been hailed as the “center of the center of marine shore fish biodiversity”. It hosts impressive number of species as well as globally endangered ones and has held an important aspect in shipping, tourism, fishing and economic activities. For a time now, the veracity of wealthy ecosystem has been in danger due to pollution, destructive fishing and irresponsible tourism.

Six Filipino top swimmers who participated and spun uninterrupted from Dorado Cove to Pico di Loro Beach & Country Club, in Nasugbu,Batangas  are  Atty Ingemar Macarine, known as the Filipino Aquaman and WWF hero for the Environment Awardee swam 7.1 km in 3 hours and 31 minutes. 


Robben Island Conquerors Betsy Madalla  and Julian Valencia reeled 10.65 kilomters in 3 hours and 13 minutes. 
Swim Academy Philippines founder, coach Moi Yamoyam and swimming student  turned open water athlete, Mikey Villanueva completed 10.2 kilomters in 4 hours and 51 minutes. 

Frank Lacson “known as The Legend in Philippine Triathlon accomplished 10.5 kilometers in 4 hours and 15 minutes.

They are all an inspiration to everyone to be responsible for our mother nature.
