Siargao's Naked and Guyam Islands

The long stretch of white sand beach coastline of General Luna, awesome white sandbar and the glittering white-sand island beaches free for the public are just the initial attractions on our first day in Siargao.

Just outside the dining area of Traveller’s Pension House and Beach Resort is a long stretch of soft white sand with calm sea. Dipping in the crystal clear water is a good option. I opted to comb the stretch and took pictures of the different resorts dotting the stretch while waiting for the boat to take us on a tour of the nearby islands.

30 minutes away from General Luna by boat is a sight to behold. Almost a hectare of powder soft white sand bar in the middle of turquoise clear water and blue skies awaits you. Heaven on earth? If not for the lack of vegetation and the fact that it disappears at high tide, I would say yes… Yes to floating on your back on undulating clear water and picture perfect moments.

A mere 25 minutes away from Naked Island is an island called Guyam. Its tide pools are rich in sea life. I saw lots of star fishes just waiting for the tide to come in while sticking out their legs. Shells of different shapes and sizes abound.

I wanted to get a piece of each but I remembered the law of nature to take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints… so I let the shells be. So on I go to the stretch of white sand beach.

The sand was not too soft for my feet to sink into and the water is warm and calm. Ever the big dipper, I dipped into the water :)

The surf may be up in Siargao, but for those who don’t surf, its beaches are definitely up on the list of must see and do.

What To Expect and What To Bring:

The sun’s rays can be pretty harsh so apply sunscreen/sun block with SPF 100 every 30 minutes.

The heat can drain you, so bring bottled water at all times.

Wear proper foot wear especially in beaches where there are corals. The best thing is not to step on them.

Bring snorkeling gear. The corals and the fishes are awesome.

Different resorts abound in General Luna. Accomodations can range from 1,000/day to 12,000/day. We stayed at the Travellers Pension House and Beach Resort.

Seafood is the main ingredient for viands. Bring anti-histamine if you’re allergic to seafood.
