Sultan Kudarat

September is the best time to visit Sultan Kudarat. Here are the reasons why:

1) Talakudong Festival in Tacurong City

Talakudong is celebrated in honor of the “kudong,” or the “headgear” that the natives and early settlers of this part of Mindanao used to wear. It's believed that the early Christian settlers of Tacurong gave the Sultan of Buluan a gift of golden kudong as thanksgiving for the peace and prosperity that they enjoyed in the area.

It should definitely be on your festival radar every year!

2) Baras Bird Sanctuary

This is the only city park in the Philippines where you can commune with 20,000+ birds going in and out of the sanctuary, day in, day out, day or night!

There, you will also get to meet our next reason for visiting Sultan Kudarat:

3) Rey Malana, the sanctuary chief bird, er, chief guy

Sir Rey’s love for furry and feathered friends made him let go of his black peppercorn farm to give way for them. His journey started with 4 egrets and now he harbors 20,000+ birds at the Baras Bird Sanctuary.

4) Climb the highest building in south-central Mindanao

Rising to 120 feet, the NFA Silo in Sultan Kudarat towers over everything in its periphery.

It can be a dizzying climb, but the 360-degree view of the beautiful landscape is worth the climb.

In fact, it can be the site to impress your date or propose in style at Mindanao’s silo in the sky.

5) Pottery making

Get to know who makes those pots for your plants just beside the national highway in Tacurong.

You might just get to make your own, if you ask nicely!

6) Visit Monte Vicenteau Resort

It can be your family’s getaway for the day. Located 15mins from the center of Tacurong City, you get to swim in their pools, harvest fruits of the season, fish in their ponds, and enjoy their food and the cool mountain air.

7) Take a dip at Esperanza’s hot and cold springs

Yes, two pools with different temperatures to soothe those aching muscles and bones. So don’t just try one, but two!

8) Drop by the Sultan Kudarat Provincial Capitol in Isulan

Taking photos in front of and inside the Sultan Kudarat capitol is a must-experience.

Jump shots and selfies with the stunning structure as your background is a favorite activity by visitors. Make it yours, too.

If you have to go inside, just make sure you ask for permission.
