Many people, when faced with an insurmountable problem, choose to simply accept it, defeated, broken, and empty. However, there’s a certain percentage of people—albeit small—that refuse to let this fatalistic mindset plague them, and fight endlessly until the bitter end.

A new film to be shown at the upcoming 13th Cinemalaya Film Festival tells the story of one person who—despite an insurmountable obstacle—refuses to play with the cards dealt to him by life, and creates ways to live life the way he wants to.

Meet Matt and Sandy

Directed by Nerissa Picadizo, “Requited” will star Jake Cuenca as Matt, a biker plagued by Parkinson’s disease, and is given very little time left alive. He refuses to take this horrible news standing down, and has dedicated himself to the goal of biking all the way to Mt. Pinatubo from Metro Manila. He is joined by Anna Luna as Sandy, his potential love interest and foil. Together, they bike through lahar-filled landscapes, desolate provincial roads, and even the avenues of their strange, strained relationship. Matt will attempt to conquer his inner and outer demons despite his ailing body, encroaching blindness, and a faltering faith.

The film is set up to be a story of desperation, struggle, but ultimately, that of redemption. Watch the two teaser trailers below:
