10 Fun-filled Resorts in Samal Island

This summer, the white sand beaches of the Island Garden City of Samal (IGaCoS) will be teeming with vacationers, tourists and the perennial sun worshippers.

Within Samal Island’s 301.3 square kilometers are resorts that would let you enjoy the sun, sand and sea. Here are our 10 recommended accommodations for you:

1) Punta del Sol Beach Resort

At the southern tip of the town of Peñaplata lies Punta del Sol Beach Resort.  It is a popular destination for divers and backpackers for its rustic yet comfortable vibe.

 2) Maxima Aquafun and Maxima House Above the Sea

If you want to stay exclusively in a boat house on stilts, but still give you the feel of home, then Maxima Iconic House Above the Sea is perfect for you.

If you want to be adventurous, the nearby giant slide and water blob of Maxima Aquafun will bring on the adrenaline rush. You can also ride the banana boat and go kayaking.

3) Cavanico il ma re

The newest addition to Samal Island’s resorts is Cavanico Il ma re or the fan by the sea. For PhP 250 for daytour, you can swim in the sea or the pool, enjoy the white sand beach and warm water, ride on a kayak or jet ski and sample their good food.

You can stay in their huts by the sea or their airconditioned cottages.

4) Paradise Island Park and Beach Resort

Just 5 to 7 minutes away from its dock at Sasa in Davao City, you will get to laze in a white sand beach with the endless blue sea. You can stay al fresco in their restaurant area or rent their cottages and get to tour their aviary.

For a gastronomic feast, try the resort’s paella valenciana.

SECDEA Beach Resort has a swimming pool, a mangrove walk, a fish pond and a panoramic view of Davao Gulf. You can also pray in their chapel or just gaze at the calm sea in one of their gazebo by the beach.

The Sea Shell cottages are highly recommended for a very comfortable stay.

6) The Island Buenavista

The Island Buenavista is the most exclusive and most expensive resort in Samal Island.

For 105,000 a day you get to “own” the island with 3 full meals and two snacks, use of the facilities and the choice to kayak, swim, dive, and eat or do nothing but sleep in whatever cottage you choose.  All have stunning views of the sea.

You also get to see the sun set on the other side of the island and the sun rise the next day on the other side.

7) Villa Amparo

Villa Amparo Resort has the clear blue water and soft white sand elements that a beach lover looks for.  Its uniqueness lies in its native style cottages on stilts, a scenic bridge and gazebo.

8) Isla Betita

Isla Betita is Samal Island’s secret garden as it is surrounded by blooms and greens overlooking Davao Gulf. Its beach line has big exposed rocks that lead to the blue sea.

Isla Betita has non-aircon and airconditioned rooms and villas that you can sleep in for overnight stays.

9) Euan’s Haven

This private rest house is located in Talicud Island.  One word for Uean’s Haven: airy. Huge windows let the sea breeze flow in and out of the house.

The veranda has a hammock that would help you relax and lull you to sleep. When you want to jump into the blue green waters of Talicud, you have to go down a few steps and its going to be bliss.

10) Isla Reta

Isla Reta is as rustic and all-natural as you get.  You can stay at the native cottages or the concrete cottages or rough it out in tents on the beach shore.

Its crystal clear water and soft white sand is a beach lover’s heaven and one of Talicud Island’s best beaches.
